finding what works [for you]
It takes a long time to discover what works best for you when it comes to exercise, but don’t stop looking for it. Don’t let anything discourage you or un-motivate you, because regardless of how easy it comes to some people, finding/sticking to or creating your workout is NOT easy. But that’s the whole point, right? Why should anyone get the benefits without doing the hard work? In my book, if you look good, you deserve to look good (no bbl’s).
When I started doing pilates I was terrible, I still am, but because it’s the most satisfying burn I’ve ever had, I don’t stop going. LAGREE Fitness is part of pilates (is my understanding), which just means that the movements are slower than those done in pilates. This helps me fully challenge myself. The movements have to be slow, and in return you feel all of your muscles working at once. What’s insane is that with a good diet and just a few weeks you can see results, but you can also feel the difference.
This was important to me.
I’ve worked out a lot in the past but I was never satisfied with the challenge level and I think it’s because when you do pilates:
you are being coached and told what to do and therefor expected to perform
you’re on a machine that is not accessible to you at home
you’re being challenged to not only get the form right and exercise, but also to balance
and I really needed that.
It’d be like working out and someone coming over to you and telling you you’re doing every exercise wrong -so you fix your form for as long as 40 minutes and you have a 100% satisfying workout because you’re actually working out that entire time.
The dumbbells and the weights never really did it for me, but the reformer (machine used in pilates) really allows you to truly learn resistance training, which in my book, is waaaay better than weight training/lifting. If I want more of a challenge I can add more weight to the machine to work against me, and can make modifications as needed. And I do make a lot of modifications. Just to be clear, Lagree is really hard and I challenge my body every time to the extent that it can manage, but I won’t hurt myself willingly either. Make sure to always listen to your body, and know that every day will be different. The main thing is to stay consistent. It’s actually part of my prescription to stay active. So this isn’t something I plan to stop when pregnant or older -this is something I plan to do for a while.
