drinking health[ier]

the next day side effects of drinking.

they’re real.

sometimes we handle it and get on with our day, but even on those days - the “not-so-bad” hangover days

we definitely know that something is up.

you feel the counter effects of alcohol the next day. you crave greasy food, junk food, sodas, anything to continue the effort of trying to make yourself feel better, but then realize it’s all actually made you feel worse. it’s a mind game your brain plays on you because the body is saying it needs [something] and so you assume you do, but give it the wrong stuff. you need to consume water, electrolytes, broths of sorts, etc. to feel better. because what you’ve done is essentially rob your body of nutrients to have a fun time the night before.

Not only is alcohol devoid of proteins, minerals, and vitamins, it actually inhibits the absorption and usage of vital nutrients such as thiamin (vitamin B1), vitamin B12, folic acid, and zinc.

and you might think - the person writing this doesn’t drink, but I do. just like I crave ice cream every once in a while and so on. but there’s a trick to drinking, I think, and it’s a pretty customizable solution: just add water.

when you’re out and about, drink water, it is so important to stay hydrated before and after. the less sugars in a drink, the better. even though yes, every now and then we want the pretty drink or the one that’s mixed with other alcohols and dyes, but we should definitely try to avoid this. vodka, gin and red wine are all easier to digest than other alcohols. so definitely keep that in mind as well. don’t eat unhealthy while drinking, or the next day. you need to recover by getting food/liquids into your body that will replace the now missing nutrients, such as:

B12

  • Meat.

  • Fish.

  • Milk.

  • Cheese.

  • Eggs.

  • Some fortified breakfast cereals.

B1

  • Pork.

  • Fish.

  • Beans, lentils.

  • Green peas.

  • Enriched cereals, breads, noodles, rice.

  • Sunflower seeds.

  • Yogurt.

Folic acids

  • Dark green leafy vegetables turnip greens, spinach, romaine lettuce, asparagus, brussels sprouts, broccoli

  • Beans.

  • Peanuts.

  • Sunflower seeds.

  • Fresh fruits, fruit juices.

  • Whole grains.

  • Liver.

  • Seafood.

It’s not that drinking alcohol is necessarily bad, but just like everything else, you have to consume it proportionately.

like you respect your body.
